Richard Smyth was born in Colchester England. It seemed like there was always a drawing pencil in his hand.
The lines, colors, shapes and textures of buses, trains, cars, ships and aircraft fascinated him.
On leaving school he served a formal apprenticeship with the Metal Box Company (UK.)
As an artist designer this was invaluable training for his later career.
On immigrating to the US he was first employed by Anderson Kitzerow Studio on Chicago,
another lucky break as Jack Kitzerow was a master retoucher and a great teacher.
Richard went on to have his own business specializing in airbrush illustration and photo retouching doing work for major corporations and advertising agencies.
He has now returned to his first love doing paintings of trains, planes, automobiles and boats, and is a founding member of American Society of Railway Artists.
Many of his paintings and prints now reside in private collections.
Some of the schools he attended include the London College of Printing, Twickenham Technical College and Northeastern College Chicago.
